The Five-Minute HIIT Like a Pro Workout
HIIT is an acronym for High Intensity Interval Training. It's all the rage and for a very good reason: It involves shorter workouts with greater results for the time spent than your traditional steady-state cardio. In a HIIT workout you alternate between short, intense bursts of exercise followed by periods of rest. The goal is to go really hard, then go really easy - staying out of that all-too-comfortable “grey zone.” The purpose of HIIT workouts is not to take the place of steady-state cardio though, but rather to be another way in which to mix up your routine and keep you seeing results.
Here is a great bodyweight HIIT workout you can do at home in just 5 minutes:
This HIIT workout features these five exercises, each done at a high intensity for 20 seconds with 10 seconds of jogging in place in between:
- Skaters
- Jump Lunges
- Side-to-side Mountain Climbers
- Double Knee Touches
- Burpees
Do these exercises two times through to complete the full workout.
These workouts are perfect for when you are limited for time yet want to get in a fun, effective workout. Of course, if you have a little more time and really want to push yourself - do it twice!
